Yoga: Beyond Exercise

Yoga is more than physical postures. It is a science of inner balance, connecting body, mind, and soul. Regular practice of āsanas, meditation, and mindful living can:

  • Improve physical flexibility and strength
  • Increase concentration and inner calm
  • Support natural healing and energy balance
  • Uplift spiritual awareness

Essential Rules of Āsana Practice

Practicing yoga safely and effectively requires discipline:

  • Take a full bath or perform thorough cleansing before practice
  • Practice indoors with good air circulation
  • Use a mat or blanket instead of bare ground
  • Perform āsanas only when breath flows through the left or both nostrils
  • Wait 2.5 to 3 hours after meals before practice
  • Rest in Shavāsana after finishing to absorb benefits

Special note: Women should avoid āsanas during menstruation, pregnancy, and within one month of delivery

The Yogic Diet: Food as Medicine

In Ayurveda, food is directly linked with health and consciousness. At Purulia Nature Care, we highlight the importance of a Sattvika diet for yogic living.

🌱 Sattvika Food (Pure & Harmonious)

  • Fresh fruits, whole grains, pulses (except masúr & khesári), milk, and green leafy vegetables
  • Benefits: Promotes clarity, balance, and vitality

🔥 Rajasika Food (Stimulating & Energetic)

  • Foods that energize but do not fully harmonize mind and body
  • Good for those needing strength and alertness, but best taken moderately

🌑 Tamasika Food (Heavy & Harmful)

  • Stale food, meat from large animals, intoxicants, onions, garlic, mushrooms
  • Causes heaviness, lethargy, and reduces mental clarity

Tip: Transition slowly—use haritaki (myrobalan) after meals while moving from Rajasika to Sattvika food.
